Parsons Dance Summer Intensive - Artistic Director, David Parsons and Company Members will conduct daily master classes, seminars and lectures. The workshop will include learning Parsons Dance Company repertory. Without credit the course fee is $695. For one credit the course fee and tuition is a total of $1293. THTR 298-01 DS: Musical Theatre IntensiveMay 21 - June 25
Marymount Manhattan College is partnering with the York Theatre Company to offer a five-week intensive musical theatre training opportunity for individuals aged 18-27. Participants in the program will perform new musical theatre compositions by writers whose work has been featured at the York Theatre. There will be daily dance and music classes. In addition, there will be weekly theatre going and seminars with musical theatre professionals. The intensive will culminate in the presentation of an original revue at the York Theatre, located in St. Peter's Church with Citicorp Center. The cost for the five-week intensive is $2000 per person for fulltime students and alums of Marymount Manhattan College. The cost is $2650 for students outside the college. The course will run from May 21 to June 25, Monday through Friday, from 9:30AM to 6:00 PM. Housing is available for $1300 at the 55th Street Dorm. Here you can unleash your passion for words and ideas in the company of people who care about what you say and how you say it.
When you join one of the four-day Writing Intensive Workshops you'll learn tips and tricks from top writers to help sell your work, have a personal consultation, and gain a chance to meet well-known authors. This summer's teachers will be Heidi Julavits Ben Cheever, Christopher Lehmann-Haupt

Barcelona in Literature and Film June 26 - July 10
Course #: SPAN 398-01

This two-week course will take place in Barcelona, Spain to examine the city's cultural evolution from thriving medieval Catalonian port to European cultural center. Students will study four periods in Barcelona's historical development, through literature and film: the Middle Ages, Modernism, post-Civil War, and Contemporary. Students will read novels and historical writings, and watch films before arriving in Barcelona. In Barcelona, students will visit relevant historical sites, take walking tours, look at important works of architecture and urban development, and watch a folkloric Catalonian dance performance.

Belarus: The Impact of Globalization in a Transition Economy June 26 - July 10, 2007

The past decades have witnessed Belarus becoming a consumer society that has attracted significant attention from both academic researchers and multinational marketers. Rapidly increasing purchasing power and the diversity of consumer segments have tremendous implications for domestic and multinational marketers. This course is aimed at providing students with a unique opportunity to learn about these changes through an interdisciplinary approach, from marketing, psychology, anthropology, sociology and consumer economics. The academic program consists of lectures, group discussions and field trips. This class aims to minimize the amount of time spent in the classroom and to maximize the amount of experiential learning in and around the Minsk area.

Theatre and Drama of Ancient Greece June 26 - July 7
Course #: THTR 298-01

This course introduces students to the origins of Western theatre as it came into being in Hellenic Greece. Based in Athens, students will travel about mainland Greece and the Peloponnesian peninsula to visit various sites associated with performance while studying the cultural, political, philosophical and geographical factors that influenced the development of drama by such playwrights as Euripides, Sophocles, Aristophanes and Aeschylus. A reading list will be distributed prior to our departure, and students will write several papers when they return.

JUMP START August 6-24, 2007
Jump Start is a summer program for incoming freshmen, which allows the student to earn a few credits, arrive early to campus, and explore the city before the official start of freshmen year. There are three parts to the program:

  • An Introduction to Writing Seminar that will give the students a chance to learn about New York and visit different parts of the city.
  • A College Awareness Seminar, which will review college skills necessary for success.
  • And a science course, which will focus on health and well-being for total body awareness.

Cost: $2,533, or $3,978 including room and meals
